Argentine pianist Horacio Lavandera will return to Rosario with a concert that promises to bridge the gap between classical tradition and film music. The performance will take place on Saturday, April 11, at 8:30 p.m. at the Atlas Cultural Complex, where he will present his show “Star Wars: Piano and Classics.”
The program offers a musical journey that combines fundamental works from the academic repertoire with iconic film compositions. In this vein, the concert is conceived as an experience that transcends styles and eras, with the piano as the narrative axis capable of uniting diverse sonic worlds.
The first part will be dedicated to Johann Sebastian Bach, with pieces such as the Chromatic Fantasy and the celebrated Goldberg Variations, one of the pinnacles of the Baroque period. These works, in addition to their technical complexity, have been featured in films, such as The English Patient, where their music plays a central role in the dramatic construction.
The repertoire will then shift to Romanticism with Frédéric Chopin, including Ballade No. 1 and Scherzo No. 2, pieces of great expressive intensity that have also transcended the academic sphere, as seen in Roman Polanski’s film The Pianist.
The final section will be dedicated to contemporary and film music, with a piano adaptation of John Williams’ suite for Star Wars, which will transport the audience to a galaxy far, far away through the language of the piano. There will also be compositions by Osvaldo Golijov, who worked with Francis Ford Coppola, adding a contemporary aesthetic to the concert’s closing.
With an international career that has taken him to stages such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Berlin Philharmonie, and the Teatro Colón, Lavandera is considered one of the most outstanding Argentine pianists of his generation. Trained from a young age and winner of prestigious awards, his career combines technical virtuosity with an artistic exploration that transcends genres and traditions.
