Argentine pianist Horacio Lavandera releases his new album, Live at the Coliseo Theatre in Buenos Aires, on Friday, May 8th. This eclectic collection was recorded on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the theatre and produced by Celoria Productora.

The repertoire begins with a performance of the “33 Variations on a Waltz by Diabelli, Op. 120 in C Major,” composed by Ludwig van Beethoven between 1819 and 1823, and considered by musicologist Sir Donald Tovey to be “the greatest set of variations ever written.” Very few live recordings exist due to the enormous technical and emotional complexity of the work.

It continues with “Movement I. Trauermarsch. In Gemessenem Schritt. Streng. Wie ein Kondukt” and “Movement IV. Adagietto. Sehr langsam” from Symphony No. 5, GMW 44, composed by Gustav Mahler, with arrangements taken from the original player piano roll versions recorded by the composer himself. Paul McCartney said: “We always loved Mahler and he was a huge influence on the music of The Beatles.”

After a repertoire of classics, Horacio Lavandera surprised the audience with a suite of his own arrangements, performing iconic Beatles songs such as “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” “Imagine,” “Eleanor Rigby,” “Yesterday,” and “I Saw Her Standing There.” He continued with his own version of Gustavo Cerati’s “En la Ciudad de la Furia” and closed with a tribute to two pioneers of rock and roll, Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis, performing his own arrangements of “Jailhouse Rock” and “Great Balls of Fire.”

The concert was recorded by Horacio Lavandera himself, and the mixing and mastering were done by sound engineer Federico Elicetche.

Horacio Lavandera is a fifth-generation member of a family of distinguished professional musicians. Throughout his career, he has performed on some of the most important stages in America, Europe, and Japan, both in recitals and as a soloist with prestigious orchestras. He has appeared in venues such as the Herkulessaal (Munich), the Berliner Philharmonie (Berlin), Radio France (Paris), Wigmore Hall (London), Jordan Hall (Boston), Carnegie Hall (New York), the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Rome), the Musikverein (Vienna), Hamarikyu Asahi Hall (Tokyo), the Teatro Real (Madrid), and the Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), alongside renowned orchestras such as the Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg, the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Players, and the Orchestra of the Teatro Real, under the direction of Antonio Pappano, Benjamin Zander, Franz-Paul Decker, and others.

Awarded at the Umberto Micheli International Competition held at La Scala in Milan at just 16 years old, he was also distinguished three times as “Best Instrumental Soloist” by the Argentine Association of Music Critics, honored by composer Karlheinz Stockhausen in Germany, and received the “Primer Palau” award in Barcelona.
