“Your talent was given by God,” said the great German composer Karlheiz Stockhausen – one of the greatest visionaries of 20th century music – when he first heard Horacio Lavandera, who was born into a family with an extensive musical tradition, his father being the renowned percussionist José María Lavandera, a member of the Buenos Aires Tango Orchestra, who died in 2020.

Performer of Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Segei Rachmaninov and Alban Berg, he is focused on the dissemination and composition of contemporary music and is considered a rodigio for his virtuosity and precocious interpretations. Horacio began his professional career at the age of 16, when he won the III International Umberto Micheli Piano Competition at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan (Italy). He also received a special and unique award from the La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra as Best Piano and Orchestra Performer. Since then he has toured some of the most important stages in America, Europe and Japan, both in recitals and as a soloist in prestigious orchestras.

He began taking classes with his great-aunt Marta Freijido, later with the maestro Antonio de Raco and, in Italy, thanks to the recommendation of Martha Argerich, he perfected his music with the famous Maurizio Pollini. In addition to covering the classical repertoire, he spreads contemporary music, sometimes making world premieres. These concerts include recitals for Radio France (Paris), Musicadhoy (Barcelona), Tomás Luis de Victoria Awards (Madrid) and electroacoustic concerts for CDMC (Madrid) in the 06/07 and 08/09 seasons, Alicante Festival 08, CETC (Buenos Aires) 2009 and 2010, Clásica por Contemporáneos (Madrid) 2014.

He also collaborated with great creators of our time, such as the masters Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Boulez, Mauricio Kagel, Richard Dubugnon, Guillaume Conesson, Atsuhiko Gonadi, Herbet Willi, Guillermo Martinez, Alberto Bernal, Alberto Posadas, Marlos Nobre, Joan Guinjoan, Anton Garcia Abril, Luis de Pablo, Dino Saluzzi, Miguel Farias, among others. The masters Gabriel Senanes, Fabian Panisello, Esteban Benzecry and Tomas Marco have dedicated works to him. He has performed at Carnegie Hall (New York), Radio France (Paris), Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Rome), Teatro Real and National Auditorium of Music (Madrid), Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires) and alongside prestigious orchestras such as the Salzburg Mozarteum, the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony, the London Chamber Orchestra, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, and the Oviedo Filarmonía, among others.

Lavandera has eleven albums to his credit. He has been supported by the Sony Music label, has won several Gardel Awards from Argentina, and has recorded pieces by Astor Piazzolla. He has been invited to perform as a soloist with prestigious orchestras and conductors, as well as to give recitals throughout America, Europe, and Asia. He has also been under the baton of such outstanding conductors as Charles Dutpit, Antonia Pappano, Benjamin Zander, Michael Zilm, Terje Mikkelsen, Arthur Fagen, Martin Sieghart, Christopher Wilkins, David Marphy, George Pahlivanian, Franz Paul Decker, Enrique Arturo Diemecke, among others.
