This will be the first time the virtuoso pianist will perform in our city. For this occasion, he invites us on a musical journey that unites Beethoven, Mahler, The Beatles, and Cerati. Before the concert, the pianist spoke with Susana Spano on Radio Fénix.
Next Saturday, May 31st, at 8:00 p.m., the Pro Arte Mercedes auditorium – Centro de Egresados del Colegio Nacional Florentino Ameghino will host the prestigious pianist Horacio Lavandera, who will present his concert entitled “Sounds of the Eternal.” In this unique performance, Lavandera will offer a journey through different eras and genres, linking great masters of classical music with icons of rock and contemporary music.
The concert will begin with a performance of the “God Save the King” Variations and the Diabelli Variations, masterful works by Ludwig van Beethoven, in a tribute to the melodic richness and virtuosity of the German composer. The first piece is a tribute that Beethoven dedicated to the kings of England, transforming popular melodies into universal anthems. The second, an exploration of creativity within the structure of musical variation, is considered by experts to be one of the greatest works of its genre.
The second part of the concert will take us into the emotional depths of Gustav Mahler, with interpretations of his iconic pieces such as Ich ging mit Lust, Funeral March, and the moving Adagietto from the Fifth Symphony, immortalized in Luchino Visconti’s film Death in Venice.
But Lavandera’s proposal goes beyond classical music: the program will also include piano versions of legendary Beatles songs, such as “Imagine,” “Yesterday,” and “Eleanor Rigby,” demonstrating how the Liverpool quartet’s melodies have transcended their time and style. Finally, the pianist will explore the sonic universe of Gustavo Cerati, performing some of his most iconic songs, such as “De Música Ligera,” “Té para tres,” and “En la Ciudad de la Furia.”

His repertoire ranges from classical music to collaborations with contemporary composers, demonstrating his versatility and expressive capacity.
With a career that has taken him to work with Maurizio Pollini, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Antonio Pappano, Lavandera has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Gardel Prize for Best Classical Music Album for his album dedicated to Beethoven.
The recital of “Sounds of the Eternal” promises to be a unique experience, uniting eras, genres, and emotions in a program that invites reflection and enjoyment. A must-see event for music and culture lovers.
