El Litoral. Horacio Lavandera comes to Santa Fe with “Cine al piano”. Concert October 9. 9:00 PM

Renowned Argentine pianist to perform at the Teatro Municipal 1º de Mayo on Friday, October 9

On Friday, October 9, at 9:00 p.m., the Teatro Municipal 1º de Mayo in Santa Fe will host one of Argentina’s most internationally acclaimed pianists: Horacio Lavandera. He arrives in the city with his show “Cine al piano” (Cinema at the Piano), a performance that blends the tradition of classical music with the world of cinema.

Since achieving international acclaim at age 16—when he won the 3rd Umberto Micheli International Piano Competition (2001) at La Scala in Milan—Lavandera has built a career that has taken him to some of the most prestigious stages across the Americas, Europe, and Japan.

At that competition, in addition to the first prize, he was honored by the Filarmonica della Scala as “Best Performer for Piano and Orchestra”—an accolade that marked the beginning of an international career defined by his talent, interpretive sensitivity, and a constant artistic quest.

A musical journey spanning Bach, Chopin, Piazzolla, and Star Wars

In “Cine al piano” (Cinema at the Piano), the instrument becomes a bridge between two worlds: classical music and cinema.

The program offers a musical journey that traverses the emotional and technical depth of Johann Sebastian Bach, the romantic intensity of Frédéric Chopin, and the distinctive soundscapes of Astor Piazzolla and Osvaldo Golijov, culminating in the epic, evocative melodies of John Williams.

The repertoire includes works by:

Johann Sebastian Bach: Concerto BWV 974, Chromatic Fantasia, and Goldberg Variations.
Astor Piazzolla: *Olvido* and *Suite Punta del Este*.
Osvaldo Golijov: *Juventud sin Juventud* and *Levante*.
Frédéric Chopin: Nocturne in C-sharp minor, *Andante spianato et grande polonaise*, and Ballade No. 1.
John Williams: *Star Wars* Suite, arranged by Horacio Lavandera himself.

Thus, the concert fosters a dialogue between different eras, musical languages, and sensibilities, demonstrating that classical music and film music can share the same stage and move diverse audiences.

A career on the world’s great stages.

Throughout his career, Horacio Lavandera has performed in iconic venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Musikverein and Wiener Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Teatro Real and Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Wigmore Hall in London, Hamarikyu Asahi Hall in Tokyo, and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, among many others.

He has also performed with prestigious international orchestras, including the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, the Teatro Real Orchestra, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Orchestra, and the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra. He has worked under the direction of distinguished conductors such as Antonio Pappano, Benjamin Zander, Juan Pablo Izquierdo, Alejo Pérez, Enrique Arturo Diemecke, and Roberto Minczuk, among others.

The international press has repeatedly highlighted the quality of his performances. Marie-Aude Roux, writing for the French newspaper *Le Monde*, described him as possessing the “golden hands of a young prodigy,” while Vienna’s *Klassik begeistert* noted his ability to immerse himself in the musical ideas of Franz Schubert and bring the composer’s moods to life.

Composer Karlheinz Stockhausen also recognized his talent early on with a remark that has become a hallmark of his career: “Your talent is God-given.”

An invitation to experience music from a different perspective.

Horacio Lavandera’s visit to Santa Fe offers a chance to see a live performance by an Argentine artist who has built an internationally acclaimed career while continuing to explore new audiences and repertoires.

“Cine al piano” (Cinema at the Piano) invites the audience to listen to, discover, and rediscover works that are part of the history of world music, while also revealing the narrative and emotional power of cinema within the piano itself.

A night to let yourself be carried away by the music—from Bach to *Star Wars*.
